Trust for America’s Health Issues Report Favorable to Worksite Wellness

Published by admin under Club Information,Membership

Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) released a new report, Healthier Americans for a Healthier Economy, featuring six case studies focused on the relationship between health and economic development. The report examines how health affects the ability of states, cities and towns to attract and retain employers, and how workplace and community wellness programs help improve productivity and reduce health care costs. This report lends credence to health club operators, especially those operating corporate or worksite facilities, who understand the economic importance of a healthy workforce.

“High rates of chronic diseases, like diabetes and heart disease, are among the biggest drivers of U.S. health care costs and they are harming our nation’s productivity,” said Jeff Levi, PhD, Executive Director of TFAH, and Chair of the Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health in a press release. “Workplace wellness and community prevention programs are a win-win way to make a real difference in improving our health and bottom line all at once.”

The full report is available on TFAH’s website at www.healthyamericans.org. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, The California Endowment and W. K. Kellogg Foundation supported the report.

Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club hosts the 11th Annual Roadless Ride Friday, October 14, 2011

The Roadless Ride supports Brent’s Place – providing hope and healing for kids with cancer and their families.

Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club members and staff will be pedaling hard for a great cause to raise money for Brent’s Place; a local charity that provides housing and support programs for children with cancer and their families. The 11th Annual Roadless Ride is an all day spinathon in which participants can choose to ride in an hour time slot. All proceeds benefit programming for kids with cancer and their families staying at Brent’s Place.

DATE:  Friday, October 14, 2011
TIME:   6:00am-6:00pm
PLACE: Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club
5801 South Quebec Street
Greenwood Village, CO 80111
REGISTER: www.BrentsPlace.org

According to Sean Meyerhoffer the Executive Director of Brent’s Place, “Thanks in part to the generous support we received during the 2010 Roadless Ride, Brent’s Place was able to provide “Safe-Clean” housing for 110 families in 2010, more than ever before.  We reached 100% capacity at our Aurora facility in June of 2010 and have remained full since. We have continued to see a tremendous need for our services in 2011 with more than 60 families calling Brent’s Place home so far this year. Thanks to your generous support we are able to serve each and every family that makes Brent’s Place their home away from home and privileged to share their journey through the most difficult of times of their lives. This year’s support of the 2011 Roadless Ride, we are confident we will be able to continue to provide a special place filled with hope and healing for all those who need us.”

Gary Gorman, Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club member rides every year because one of his granddaughters was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 18 months. That’s a really hard age to have a serious illness because you’re too young to communicate what’s wrong and how you feel. She’s fine now but we went through two years of all the yucky things that go along with having cancer, including spinal taps, chemo and radiation treatments, as well as the loss of her hair. She nearly died several times, and at one point was in the hospital for three weeks. I am looking forward to doing the Roadless Ride again because I know what the kids and their families go through when they fight this terrible disease and I know what a comfort Brent’s Place is for them.

There are several ways you can participate in the 2011 Roadless Ride:

Peleton Rider:  $40 includes one hour class, long sleeve t-shirt and goodie bag

Breakaway Rider: $70 includes one hour class, long sleeve t-shirt, goodie bag, a water bottle and socks

Roadless Century: Space limited to 25 riders to ride all 11 hours!  Century Riders must raise minimum of $500.

Each rider will receive a custom jersey, access to the exclusive VIP lounge and meals, goody bag, chair massage and reserved bike for the day.

Corporate buyout: $1600 includes 25 reserved bikes for a one-hour ride, 25 t-shirts, 25 water bottles and 25 goody bags, plus a company banner displayed at the event.

An estimated 600 people will participate in one of the 11 hour spinning classes for the annual Brent’s Place Roadless Ride.  In addition to spinning classes, led by trained instructors from Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club, the event will include a silent auction.

For more information on how to raise funds as part of the Roadless Ride, or to sign up to take your place in the saddle, visit www.brentsplace.org or contact Julie Gart at Brent’s Place at 720.343.2800. For location information visit www.GreenwoodATC.com.

Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club Expands Again

Published by admin under Club Information,Expansion

Join us October 3-8 for an Open House week during
the Grand Opening of our new 11,000 square foot addition!

“Colorado continues to be the state with the lowest obesity rate in the country, at 20.1% in the first half of 2011”…Gallup, August 25, 2011. As Colorado residents continue to find new ways to stay in shape, Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club is expanding to 101,000 square feet!

Local residents are finding cross training methods the best way to stay in shape for their sport which is one reason Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club is expanding and adding a new 11,000 square foot addition to their building. The expansion offers a unique Pilates Studio open to the public with private training, classes and teacher training. There will also be a Combat Zone Martial Arts Studio featuring Mixed Martial Arts training for adults and children by black belt instructors and professional fighters, a dedicated Barre Studio, and a new 2000 square foot climate-controlled yoga studio for heated and non-heated classes.

New 11,000 square foot wing, encompassing a new Pilates Studio, Barre and Yoga Studios

The Grand Opening Celebration is October 3-8, 2011 and is open to the public.

Complimentary one-week passes will be given out and the club will be offering unique classes in all the new areas.

The expansion includes a 1,500 square foot Combat Zone; a professional Martial Arts Studio offering Mixed Martial Art programs including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Filipino Kali, USBA Boxing Instruction, Junior Boxing, Kids Kickboxing, Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Knock-Out conditioning training. Black Belt Instructor Matt Cram will be the BJJ instructor.  According to Vic Spatola, Director of the Combat Zone, “This is the perfect time for us to open, with Mixed Martial Arts being the fastest growing sport in the world. Right now more adults and kids are looking for ways and places to train. In fact, many of the top fighters in the sport come from Colorado.” The Combat Zone features 10 full size kickboxing bags, a partial MMA Cage by TapouT® and a fully matted floor. Programs will be offered to non-members and recreational reimbursement will also be available to residents from the cities of Greenwood Village and Cherry Hills Village.

The new Pilates studio will have its own private entrance. According to Director of Pilates, Sara Talbert, “Non-members will now have easy access to our fully equipped studio choosing from a staff with over 80+ years of combined experience for their private lessons and classes. Additionally, non-members can participate in all of the programs we offer from beginner Pilates Programs, like Pilates 101, to Pilates for Golfers or Pilates for Athletes, we have something for everyone, our Pilates training helps athletes perform better, this work is not just for dancers.”

This new 1400 square foot studio will continue to offer group Pilates classes such as reformer, chair and tower but now they will offer the Swedish ladder, Pilates Stick and MVe® classes. There will also be a smaller Pilate’s studio for private training and they will continue to offer instructor education.  According to Tiffany Levine, Director of Marketing, “in the past people were attracted to Pilates for alleviating back pain and now more athletes are attracted to Pilates for the performance enhancing benefits.“

Currently Greenwood offers over 20 yoga classes per week and eight different types of yoga, all included with an athletic club membership. In the new 2,000 square foot yoga studio with its heated floors, a dedicated heat and humidity system for Thermal Yoga (106°F and 50% humidity), and three lighting options, the experience for yoga participants will be sheer paradise. Lastly there is a personalized studio for small groups and Greenwood Barre classes.

According to Ian Maxwell, Yoga Manager, “Greenwood’s yoga program will offer the yoga enthusiast expert instructors, more variety and the most optimal yoga environment — a Yoga Sanctuary.  The big difference is that members will not only get over 20 yoga classes per week, but they may also choose from over 125 different group fitness classes all for the same price as a studio.“

According to Paula Neubert, President and General Manager of Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club, “We are excited to continue to improve the club year after year and keep you wanting for more!”

As a Metropolitan District, Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club members who are residents of Greenwood Village and Cherry Hills Village are eligible to participate in the Greenwood Village and Cherry Hills Village Recreational Reimbursement Programs.  To learn more about Greenwood Athletic and Tennis Club or call 303-770-2582.
